This invite-only funding opportunity is designed to support the Economic Statistics Centre of Excellence (ESCoE). This funding will support ESCoE’s high-quality research to improve economic measurement, enhance the production of key statistics, and address challenges related to economic measurement, including the following objectives:

- to provide research that helps modernise economic data collection, processing and analysis

- to support the Office for National Statistics (ONS) in shaping global economic measurement standards working with researchers and statistical agencies in the UK and abroad

The award must start by 1 April 2027 and last 36 months.

What we're looking for Aim

This invitation-only funding opportunity will provide funding for the Economic Statistics Centre of Excellence (ESCoE) to support high-quality research to improve economic measurement.

Scope

This invite-only opportunity, co-funded with the Office for National Statistics (ONS), seeks to sustain and strengthen the Economic Statistics Centre of Excellence (ESCoE) and its central role in advancing the UK’s capability in economic measurement.

The funding aims to support the development of innovative methodologies to better capture economic activity in a rapidly evolving economy, alongside research to modernise economic and environmental-economic data collection, processing and analysis. This will improve the accuracy, quality and relevance of key economic statistics and estimates, including gross domestic product (GDP), labour market and household statistics, productivity, innovation and business dynamics, and measures relating to net zero, climate change and the environment.
